Digital Audio-Visual Materials

20x20.gif (632 bytes) The AHC has provided digital versions for portions of four motion picture films and one speech originally recorded on a phonograph record to provide a sampling of its audio-visual resources.  

There are minimum hardware and software requirements necessary to view these materials.  A personal computer running a web browser with the QuickTime Player or RealOne Player must be downloaded and your personal computer needs a sound card and a minimum 28.8 modem installed for use.

The AHC wishes to thank The Center for Teaching Excellence and in particular, Andy Bryson, for his work in digitizing the motion picture film and phonograph record.

West of Hot Dog Motion Picture

The 1924 motion picture West of Hot Dog stars Stan Laurel from the Sam Peeples Papers. On his way to collect inheritance in the small town of Hot Dog, Laurel gets robbed by highwaymen. 

Peeples, a television script writer and author, also collected feature length films and phonograph records of sound effects and movie soundtracks.

A QuickTime video of a child's holstser set from the papers of actor Wiliam Boyd, best known for his portrayal of cowboy character Hopalong Cassidy.


Black 14 Protest (1.4 MB)

In October 1969, 14 African-American players from the University of Wyoming's football team wanted to wear black armbands to protest the alleged racial policies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which operates Brigham Young University. On October 17, 1969, the day before the football game with Brigham Young, the players met with coach Lloyd Eaton regarding the armbands and Eaton dismissed them from the team for violating team rules regarding political activities.  

This is a black-and-white home movie (two minutes and 18 seconds, without sound) shows people protesting at the University of Wyoming.


President John F. Kennedy in Laramie (3.4 MB)

President Kennedy, accompanied by U.S. Senator Gale McGee, visited Laramie and the University of Wyoming in October 1963.  This is a 53 second color film of that visit from the Gale W. McGee Papers.


 Nellie Tayloe Ross Speech (2.07 MB)

Ross served as Wyoming Governor from 1925-1927 and later director of the U.S. Mint from 1933-1953.  Her six minute speech to the Business and Professional Women's Club in 1938  is available.  An inventory for a portion of Ross' papers can be consulted for further information.


UW Basketball, 1943 NCAA Championship Game (2.8 MB)

This is a 57 second highlight film of the University of Wyoming defeating St. John's University for the collegiate men's national basketball championship.


UW Football, 1951 Gator Bowl Game (12.5 MB)

This seven minute film of the 1951 Gator Bowl shows the University of Wyoming defeating the Washington and Lee Generals, 20-7.
